PortfolioBelow are details of, and links to, some of the websites I've been involved in. Broadly speaking, website creation can be split into two main areas: Design, and development. Design encompasses the general look and layout of a site, while development covers the programming of anything from a simple members' logon facility, to a fully featured, database-driven, e-commerce site. It's therefore not uncommon for other website designers to ask me to add some kind of functionality to a site they've already created, or to build a website from scratch but from their designs. For this reason I've noted below those who have been involved in the site design.
Salon Collective
url: http://www.salon-collective.co.uk/ Summary:Salon Collective is a fully-featured e-commerce web site selling professional haircare products, and is developed using valid XHTML 1.1, PHP and MySQL. Key features include:
Notes:1. Although the site was initially developed using only valid XHTML 1.1, the content management functionality, at the client's request, allows them to enter their own markup. As a result many of the pages no longer validate, which is a shame and unfortunately beyond my control.
Mandarin Collections
url: http://www.mandarincollections.com/ Summary:Mandarin Collections sell contemporary and traditional hand-crafted Chinese Furniture. Key features of the website include:
UK MRD Laboratory Network
url: http://www.ukmrd.co.uk/ Summary:This website was developed for a nationwide laboratory network based in Bristol University and interested in leukaemia research. The site is password protected and so is inaccessible to the general public. Although it's not possible to view this website without the correct authorisation, I document it here to demonstrate experience using Access and ASP. The workings of this site can be shown in person by appointment. In essence, the site serves as a means to store and query data collected via the examination and testing of biopsies from leukaemia patients. I've constructed a fairly complex relational Microsoft Access database to store the information, and ASP to manipulate it. Access and ASP are not my preferred tools for this kind of application, but I was constrained as the hosting web server was itself Microsoft IIS and did not have PHP or MySQL installed on it.
